Colombia Chaparral Organic

Regular price $13.00 Sale

Buttery with a silky body of brown sugar sweetness, this Colombian dazzles with vibrant notes of citrus and nuanced hints of florals balanced with chocolate and butterscotch. Packed full of tasty goodness, the Chaparral's base notes of warm baking spice linger long into the finish.

The Colombia Chaparral comes to us from family-owned farms organized around the Surcafes Association. All fifty-four association members reside within the Chaparral municipality in the department of Tolima, Colombia. Surcafes works to establish connections in the specialty coffee market as a means to improve coffee prices for its members. This collaboration, in turn, enables farmers to reinvest in their farms and provide for their families through access to technical support for best agricultural practices and innovative coffee processing methods.

The municipal district of Chaparral is nestled in a canyon on the spine of the Andes. The area is rife with hundreds of small lakes and streams, many of which spill into Colombia's central valley on their way to the Caribbean. The Chaparral's high-elevation climate nurtures the coffee grown in the region where the government prohibits the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As a result, the district's smallholder farmers have achieved their organic certification and are working towards earning both Rainforest and Fair Trade certificates in the coming year as well.
