Organic Hibiscus Sabdariffa is more commonly known as “Jamaica Flowers.” The seductive flavors of organic Jamaica, organic Rooibos, and organic Honey Bush combine to create a robust, fruity, and deep red infusion. Jamaica flowers are hand picked from a variety of hibiscus when the flowers of this shrubby plant become plump and juicy red. The dried, reddish-purple flowers are consumed in teas, wines, and tonics throughout the world. The tart, deep flavor of Jamaica Flowers partners well with the refreshing character of Rooibos.

Steeping

Water: 195° F (just off the boil)
Leaves: 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces of water
Infusion Time: 5-7 minutes

Brew with fresh, cold tap water preferably filtered to remove the chlorine. Bottled spring water also works well.

To achieve the best results from herbals, use a ceramic or a glass pot with an infuser basket, ideally equipped with a strainer in the spout. The pot should be large enough to allow the contents full contact with the water, yet not so large as to render a weak cup. A French press, widely popular as a coffee brewer, also functions nicely for herbal preparation.

To prepare for steeping, pour hot water into the pot to warm it. Then pour off the water. This step is important since a cold pot can reduce water temperature 10-15°, thus making it difficult for herbals to steep properly and produce a quality cup. To achieve a 195° water temperature, bring water to a boil and then remove your pot from the heat for 10-15 seconds. By that time, the water will have cooled sufficiently to be "just off the boil."

Since herbals don’t posses the astringent properties found in teas, your dose can be determined by the strength of beverage you prefer. Measure out 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces of water to begin with. Steep for 5-7 minutes. For a stronger cup, increase the dose or steep for a longer period of time.
